Martin Leads Cherry Bomb 100:
Tight car slows him down at the end

Rockingham, NC: Hal ‘the Ragin’ Cajun’ Martin, driver of the #76 Ford showed everyone at Rockingham Speedway, what a guy from Louisiana could do. After a solid day of practice on Friday, Martin qualified on the outside pole out of 23 cars to make Saturday’s race.

Racing started early on Saturday afternoon at the Rock. The green flag waved at 1:00pm ensuring fans a good race and plenty of time to cook out and watch fireworks afterwards. Martin was determined to give them a good show. He quickly jumped out in front and held on to the lead for the first six laps.

Unfortunately Martin’s car started getting tight on him and he started sliding back through the field. At one point he went down a lap but kept fighting hard. On the next caution he was given the lucky dog and moved back up to the lead lap where he remained the rest of the afternoon.

Martin was able to make the best of his car and brought home an 11th place finish.

“Overall we had a decent weekend,” commented Martin. “Wish it had been better, without the car being so tight, but 11th isn’t too bad. We will just have to carry it on to the next race.”

This was Martin’s first race with Lorz Motorsports in the ASA Late Model Series. He will be racing with the team again on August 15th at Nashville Superspeedway.
